Pinot Gris

PEAR DROP AND FIGS

Pinot Gris

Trophy-winning, aromatic and beautifully concentrated.  We like to keep our Marlborough Pinot Gris fresh, lively and bursting with apple, honeysuckle and fig.  Soft and rounded with perfectly balanced acidity.  A real favourite.

Pinot Gris Pinot Gris

This Pinot Gris will draw you in with aromas of pear drops and nutty characters, and excite the taste buds with gorgeous stone fruit and honey flavours. You’ll find the palate is full with wonderful balance between fruit sweetness and acidity, and a refreshing crisp finish. Ideal with Asian food, chicken or light pasta dishes.

Marlborough is a fantastic region for realising the full potential of grape varieties.  With its mild springs, largely dry summers and consistently cool nights, we get this great extended growing season that means we can leave grapes on the vines until they reach their ideal ripeness.  The Pinot Gris from this year has notes of nashi pear with some bees wax high tones.

Selected parcels of Pinot Gris were individually harvested, de-stemmed and then gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 48 hours then racked prior to a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks to capture and enhance the fruit flavours. Following fermentation the wine was blended, stabilised, and then filtered prior to bottling.

REVIEW Pinot Gris 2016, Raymond Chan

Bright straw-yellow colour, paler on the rim.  The nose is fresh with gently full with voluminous aromas of white stonefruits with pears, white florals and hints of rose-petals, and subtle nutty and mineral notes.  Dry to taste and medium-bodied, the palate has up-front flavours of white and yellow stonefruits, pears and florals, unfolding hints of honeysuckle, nuts and minerals.  The mouthfeel possesses a rounded core with a little unctuousness, good drive and linearity.  The acidity is balanced and integrated, and the wine flows smoothly to a light, nuanced finish.  This is a soft, rounded, dry Pinot Gris with white stonefruit and floral flavour, and a smooth flow.  Serve with Asian and Middle Eastern fare over the next 3 years.

It is delightfully fruited on the nose showing fresh pear, mandarin and rockmelon characters with subtle floral lift. The palate delivers juicy mouthfeel and bright fruit intensity, nicely supported by smooth texture and refreshing acidity. The wine is attractively fruited and very easy on the palate. At its best: now to end of 2018.
